Overall frustrating experience, this was our honeymoon and it wasn’t great. It was frustrating because it’s the only restaurant on level one that’s open for lunch before 1. Sometimes it was 11 sometimes it was 12:30. The restaurant by the pool was never consistent with what time they opened. I had to call the front desk two times for a hair dyer. Also, house keeping only came three times during the 6 days we were there. The room smelled mildewed after that for the rest of the trip. Then it took house keeping 2 phone calls and 2 days to come get the 15 soaking wet towels we had in a pile. They didn’t offer to move our room or anything. I had to call maintenance 3 times about it. My husband and I had to move the heavy furniture to lay towels down and try to stop the water from spreading. The water was pouring into our room behind the tv. I had to call maintenance twice to get those things fixed. The second night we were there they had a major storm where a lot of the property was damaged and we had a room on the 15th floor. When we got to our room, the AC and the mini bar both didn’t work. This was the first frustrating thing that happened. After we checked in our friends checked in after us and they were offered a room upgrade to the pent house suit for $300 extra a night. When we checked in we asked if there were any upgrades we could purchase (preferred club, rooms, etc) and they told us they had nothing available. I have been at resorts that have little impromptu shows with a hawk and handler. One odd thing: There was a girl walking around with a hawk on her arm, but she never did anything with the hawk. It was not cheerful or good looking in any way. The room was out dated with dingy pink curtains separating the bathroom from the bedroom. The balcony was a normal, see through balcony, although small and narrow. After quite a hassle, we were finally placed on the Preferred floor (15). You couldn't see from the balcony without standing up. We could not believe that it was in the Preferred section. It was a pleasure to walk around.Ĭons: When we arrived, we were sent to a sub standard room with a stone walled balcony. The Grounds: the landscaping was very nice and kept up. The waiters that took care of us at the Cabana were also very helpful and there when we needed them. The food was good at the restaurants and the Cabana (Bali Bed) that we rented was very nice. Our Butler, Carlos Miranda and his helper, Jose Beccera, helped rescue what could have been a very bad week. Pros: The Staff: All the staff are eager to please, friendly and helpful. I was told I needed to wait another 2 hours for another room to be available. The staff was uninterested and appeared inconvenienced by my request. I approached the front desk staff in the hope of switching to a different room. This room shared the same concerns as the previous, but even worse. Upon discovering these issues, I asked to be switched and I got a room on the 6th floor. It was evident that the room had not received the attention it needed to maintain a comfortable atmosphere. The furnishing appeared old, and the overall cleanliness left much to be desired. The problems continued when I reached my room (3rd) Expect to hear noise from the pool if your room is on floor 1-6. The resort lobby had no AC so the weather was hot and extremely humid. As I entered the lobby, it was apparent that this place had seen better days.Īrrived around 1pm, however, the front desk was not willing to provide an early check in. The exterior of the building looked a bit outdated. The first impression upon arriving at the resort was good. The resort was clearly showing its age, with poorly maintained rooms and a front desk staff that seemed less than willing to assist. However, my experience left much to be desired. I recently had the opportunity to stay at Secrets Vallarta resort that had garnered some positive reviews in the past.
